Living Wall is an architectural solution that adresses the problem of outdoor swimming pools only used in summer. The task was to take an existing swimming pool complex and re-imagining the space functioning intelligently all year round and overlaying various programmes.
The Varembé pool is situated in Geneva, in the United Nations district. It is one of the most popular pools in Geneva open all year round. The interior is strictly used for swimming while the exterior, open only in summer, is conducive to social interaction and neighborhood gathering.
Living Wall is a permeable extension of the façade that allows the social role of the pool to be extended into the winter. This unifying wall hosts meeting and sharing spaces that are accessible all year round. It unites interior and exterior, summer and winter, swimming and meeting, and helps to unite the neighborhood.
