Pile Poil, «perfect fit», is a sculptural staircase. The project was to rethink a staircase according to an imposed typology: the attic staircase. When not in use, the staircase is not stored like a normal attic staircase but remains visible and is used as storage furniture, suitable for storing jackets, shoes, bags and keys.
The special feature of Pile Poil is its two-piece design. The first one is a fixed concrete volume and the second one is a mobile wood structure that can be stored in the first one. Its narrow width is suitable for its use as an attic staircase and helps to save space. The Japanese step system allows for a smaller footprint.
